Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea) steam distilled in France
Clary Sage is a plant which I have very much enjoyed growing in my garden. It grows large, furry leaves, low to the ground, then puts out a slender stalk on which hang lovely, purple flowers. The essential oil distilled from these flowers is a blessing for women as well as for all those who may suffer from emotional problems from time to time. It has a nickname of “the oil of laughter.”
The anti-convulsive and anti-infectious properties of Clary Sage make it excellent for headaches, menstrual cramps, childbirth, and asthma. It can ease tightness in the chest to aid in the treatment of bronchitis as well. Clary Sage stimulates the scalp and can be used for hair loss. A few drops mixed into shampoo are very invigorating for the scalp.
Essential oil of Clary Sage is a great boon for women. It both induces and regulates menstruation. It eases menstrual cramps, especially when mixed into a massage oil and rubbed into the lower back. Clary Sage helps with all aspects of PMS and imparts a feeling of empowerment as well. It brings a sense of pure joy, which gives it a reputation as an aphrodisiac. In childbirth, Clary Sage eases pain, speeds up the process, and helps expel the afterbirth. For menopause, Clary Sage cools hot flashes, helps with vertigo, assuages feelings of rage, and helps clear the mind.
Clary Sage is a veritable garden of the spirit. It both calms and inspires. It is particularly useful when added to a bath salt or a liquid soap, where its antidepressant qualities really shine, especially when one is coping with a loss. This essential oil has been shown to lower blood pressure, which makes it helpful for insomnia, hysteria, nervousness, anxiety, and fear. Its soothing and uplifting qualities should be remembered when dealing with addictions, paranoia, guilt, burnout, and nightmares. Clary Sage adds a level of grounding and insight to our daily lives which takes us out of time and into our own personal nirvana.
Always dilute your essential oils in an unscented carrier oil like Sesame or Jojoba. Do not take essential oils internally. Always store essential oils out of heat and sunlight. Keep essential oils away from children and pregnant women.
