Vetiver is a thick, sticky oil distilled from a grass which flourishes in tropical climates. Vetiver is gaining popularity for its use as an erosion control plant. Its roots can grow over six feet long and spread quickly, stabilizing marshy ground. Some of the chemicals found in essential oil of vetiver are zizanol, epizizanol, and fufurol.

 

Well-known for its insect repellent and cooling properties, vetiver is often used to reduce fevers and relieve hot flashes. It can be used in a massage oil for circulation, arthritis, gout, and rheumatism. Vetiver strengthens connective tissue and helps with cramps, sprains, and strains.  Its antioxidant ability is beneficial for the entire body.

 

Vetiver is a great boon to the skin. It nourishes and protects the skin while soothing and healing many sorts of irritation. It is both antibacterial and antifungal, allowing it to treat many sorts of rashes, hives, and other problems of sensitive skin. Vetiver can be used in blends for wrinkles, eczema, and general dry skin. It balances the sebum in the skin and soothes it at the same time. Vetiver is an excellent burn remedy, especially when blended with Lavender.

It can soothe obsessive and perfectionistic tendencies, as well as comfort those who feel burned out and depressed. Vetiver imparts a feeling of strength and protection. It can be used to combat hysteria and the emotional aspects of addiction. Essential oil of vetiver is the ultimate in a grounding and centering oil. 

 

Always dilute your essential oils in an unscented carrier oil like Sesame or Jojoba. Do not take essential oils internally. Always store essential oils out of heat and sunlight. Keep essential oils away from children, pets, and pregnant women.
